To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing with regret to inform you that Roger Crump - at KES from 1957-1964 - passed away on 12th September 2017 at the age of 71.

After leaving King Edward VII School in 1964, he went to study Electrical and Electronic Engineering at UMIST. From what I can gather it was part of a 1, 3, 1 sandwich course. He spent one year in industry at ICT, then carried out his University studies and finished with another year in industry with ICL (as ICT had become). Upon graduating from University with a 2:1 in 1968, he moved permanently to the Herts/Beds area, and worked for ICL Letchworth and Stevenage, both in Hertfordshire, for the vast majority of his career (until around the early-mid 90s). Between then and his early retirement in 2004 he worked for various companies in London and Luton, Beds - mainly Electroversal and DCM, but there may have been others.

He got married to Pat Hayes in 1977, and went on to have two children, Graham and myself, in the early 80's. He was also a grandfather to my two children, who were born in 2013 and 2015. He and Pat sadly separated, and ultimately were divorced not long afterwards around 2004.

Around the same time he took early retirement and moved back to his home town of Sheffield in order to care for his mother in her deteriorating health, until her passing in 2009, and from then on spent his time volunteering at local charity shops for St Luke's Hospice, making new friends, reacquainting with old ones, and spending time with his family.

I remember my dad saying that when he was at school he wasn't a sporty or musical pupil, but he very much enjoyed the sciences - particularly physics, maths and astronomy.

His funeral is due to take place at 1:45pm on Thursday 12th October 2017 at City Road Crematorium in Sheffield.

I do hope this message is able to reach any Old Edwardians out there who remember Rog, and if they have any stories about him, I would be very interested to hear them.

Kind Regards,

Amanda Field (Roger's daughter)
