Following the success of his book about King Edward VII School and the Old Edwardians in World War One, entitled “Hear Their Footsteps”, the author, John Cornwell, is now researching the history of the school and its former pupils in World War Two.
He is looking for information from relatives, friends and former school mates who may remember any of the 110 Old Boys who lost their lives in the 1939-45 War and also may have any information on those who survived and played a significant role in the conflict. Men like Geoffrey Turner, an RNVR Commander who won the George Cross for defusing aerial mines, and Brigadier Bill Williams who was Montgomery’s chief intelligence officer from El Alamein until the end of the war.
Old Edwardians gained sixty awards for bravery in World War Two and the school has some of their stories already but much of the information is incomplete. A specialist publisher of Military History books based in the Midlands has already agreed to re-publish the King Edward’s 1914-18 Book, “Hear Their Footsteps” and discussions are continuing about publishing the Second World War book as well.
