Following the unprecedented success of King Edward's 90th Anniversary celebrations organised by the School, I am writing to thank you for taking the opportunity to `reregister' on the night as a Member of the Old Edwardians. The past months have been hectic as your Committee has concentrated on preparing to take advantage of the regeneration of interest in the Association kindled by the evening.

Formerly, the Association concerned itself with upholding OEs' sports and mounting the Annual Reunion Dinner. You will know that we would now wish to assume a somewhat wider role and, as well as proposing the enhancement of the OEs' social activities, we have a strategic plan which fully embraces the School.

The Committee is focusing effort on the provision of computers for the immediate benefit of existing pupils and we have established a School Support Fund fuelled at a rate of 10% of the Association's subscription income. With an eye towards the Millennium, we would like to play a prominent role in the restoration of the fabric of the Old Building; more ambitiously and possibly the subject of a future appeal, we hope that the Association may help significantly improve the provision of sports facilities at the Glossop Road site, to the advantage also of the local community.

May we encourage you to support next year's social programme which kicks off with the Annual Reunion Dinner at the Cutlers' Hall on Friday 4th April 1997? Should this not prove possible, please keep in touch with us through the School Secretary, Ann Smith, quoting your membership number cited above.

I look forward to meeting you again in the future but, in the interim, the best of good fortune to you.

ANNUAL REUNION DINNER
FRIDAY 4th APRIL 1997 - CUTLERS' HALL, SHEFFIELD

The Annual Reunion Dinner will always be the highlight of the Association's social calendar and has traditionally been held on Maundy Thursday. In recent years, the function was mounted at Baldwin's Omega which has suited our purposes admirably.

It is felt that the enormous expression of interest in the 90th Anniversary celebrations organised by the School will result in considerably larger numbers of members and their guests wishing to attend the Dinner in 1997 and the Cutlers' Hall has been selected as the new venue of choice.

Please note that the date of the Dinner is Friday 4th April 1997 (that is, the Friday after Easter), which is the only suitable date available to us over the holiday period when, crucially, those new Members now studying at university are readily able to attend the function.

Old Edwardians will entertain us; Matthew Bannister, Controller of BBC Radio has kindly accepted our invitation to speak after the meal and Christopher Mower, Regional Director of Abbey Life Assurance will again conduct the raffle towards Association funds.

Although the existing,. highly successful formula of the Dinner will remain essentially unchanged, the opportunity has been taken to widen the appeal of the evening and either black tie or lounge suit should now be considered appropriate attire. The timings are confirmed as 7:30 for 8:00 pm; carriages 01:30 am.

It promises to be a truly memorable occasion and your Committee look forward to meeting you there.

ANNUAL REUNION DINNER 1998

The scheduling of the Annual Dinner is a subject of some debate. A number of dates are available to us over the Easter period in 1998 on which the Dinner may be mounted.

This year's choice of date was a necessity forced on us by the change of venue. Some Members who have been able to faithfully attend the Dinner in the past have expressed a preference for a return to the straightforward choice of Maundy Thursday in future. In contrast, those who holiday over the period would seem to favour the weekend before Easter. In any event, perhaps those living and working away from Sheffield find a Saturday is a more convenient day to attend such a function than any weekday.

To aid the Committee's selection of the most propitious date for the 1998 Dinner, please prioritise your choices below:

( ) Friday, 3" April 1998           i.e. the Friday before Easter

( ) Saturday, 4th April 1998      i.e. the Saturday before Easter

( ) Thursday, 9th April 1998     i.e. Maundy Thursday
