Old Edwardians Dinner, 2005

Some 165 or so gathered at Baldwin's Omega on Maundy Thursday, March 24th 2005.

Eras represented ranged from the present, with a dozen sixth formers present, to the 1920s - Professor Frank Ellis, who left KES in 1924, will be 100 in August.

The Senior Student, Peter Beeley, gave us a glowing account of the present activities of the school, now a model of multiculturalism and inclusivity (arguably not the case in the time of his grandfather, Dr Peter Beeley, also present).

The guest speaker was Roland Smith. He continued the East European theme of 2004, with the emphasis on the Ukraine where he had been Ambassador until 2002. In the best traditions of Edwardian balance, he redressed the pro-SWFC tone (albeit elegiac) of last year's speaker with timely remarks about another higher-placed Sheffield team.

Two innovations were introduced; those who started 50 years ago were encouraged to come, as were the present sixth form, with gratifying results.
