Mrs Beverley Jackson

bejMichael Lewis, Headteacher since 1988, has announced his intention to retire in July 2008.

After a protracted selection process involving 12 candidates, the post has been offered to Mrs B Jackson, currently Associate Head of Hall Cross School in Doncaster. Mrs Jackson has accepted the offer and will take up the appointment in September 2008, breaking an all-male list of Heads going back to the foundation of Sheffield Royal Grammar School some 404 years ago.

Moreover, Mrs Jackson is a Sheffielder born and bred. She attended Earl Marshal School in Fir Vale, taking a Bachelor degree at Sheffield Polytechnic followed by a Masters at Sheffield University and an NPQH at the Open University. She lives in Sheffield with her husband Bryan, also a teacher.

She worked briefly in Sheffield but has worked in Doncaster since 1983:

Hall Cross School has 2,200 students including 450 in the 6th form. It is a split site — the Upper School site (parts of which are listed) was Doncaster Grammar School (and there is an 'Old Danensians' asociation). The school has just been named as one of the top 100 improved schools in the country.
