Norman Barnes’s Spirituals

Saturday morning 15 October from 10.30 to 10.50 am
Norman Barnes’s Spirituals will be performed in the Winter Gardens by Members of Sheffield Bach Choir as part of Classical Sheffield’s Winter Weekend.
Saturday 12 November at 7.30 pm — Concert by Sheffield Bach Choir at Sheffield Cathedral
Six short settings of the Spirituals are included. The other works in the concert are Handelís Concerto Grosso in G and his oratorio Israel in Egypt with its magnificent double choruses. Sheffield Bach Choir will be joined by members of Leeds-based St Peterís Singers and the National Festival Orchestra with Kristina James, Nichola Hooke, Lucy Appleyard, Peter Condry and Quentin Brown among the vocal soloists. Another Generation

This new book by John Cornwell, about the history of King Edward VII School and the Old Edwardians in the Second World War 1939-45, traces the effect of the war on the running of the school, and also details the service in the forces of the 110 Old Edwardians who died and many of those who survived.
